The DVLA expects that a taxi driver should meet the same medical requirements as a HGV or PCV Licence holder but the rules for taxi drivers are slightly different to those of bus and lorry drivers.
Each Local Authority (Council) determines what the medical should consist of and who can carry it out. Most Councils allow any General Practitioner (GP) to perform Taxi Medicals. However, some state that only the driver’s own GP may do so. Therefore, before booking a taxi medical appointment please check with your Council to clarify this and to obtain their Medical Assessment form which you must bring with you otherwise the medical cannot be completed.
If you require any assistance please speak to a ready2drive medical advisor on ……
Some Councils also require medical experts carrying out examinations to have seen your medical record summary. You are entitled to a free copy and there should be no charge.
